The regional TV channel RTPA has produced a compelling report focused on type 2 diabetes, offering an intimate look into the lives of individuals managing this chronic condition in Asturias. At the heart of the story is the transformative impact of the CARE4DIABETES program.

Led by the Principality of Asturias and piloted across 11 other European countries, CARE4DIABETES promotes a holistic, lifestyle-based approach to managing—and potentially reversing—type 2 diabetes. Rather than relying solely on medication, the program empowers participants to adopt sustainable healthy habits: balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and adequate rest, all under the supervision of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Aiming for remission and quality of life

The program’s ultimate goal is to induce diabetes remission, reduce or eliminate the need for medication, and significantly improve participants’ quality of life.

The Results speak for themselves. After just one year of participation:

  • Nearly 50% of individuals were able to stop taking medication.
  • Average waist reduction: 10.8 cm
  • Average weight loss: 5 kg
  • Average BMI decrease: 1.6 points

Real Stories, real impact

The report highlights the voices of 26 participants, aged between 41 and 72, who share their personal journeys—challenges, breakthroughs, and victories. Their testimonies are a powerful reminder that lifestyle changes can improve not only physical health but also emotional well-being and overall life satisfaction.
