In commemoration of World Diabetes Day 2024, the Asturias Diabetes Association (ASDIPAS) held an informative event, “Diabetes and Wellbeing,” on November 17, 2024, in Pola de Lena, Asturias. The event brought together individuals, healthcare professionals and community members with the objective of raising awareness about diabetes and promoting holistic approaches to managing the condition.

The conference addressed a number of key issues with the objective of improving the quality of life for those affected by diabetes. The following key sessions were covered:

  • The role of lifestyle in the management and prevention of complications was emphasised, with particular focus on balanced nutrition, physical activity and mental health.
  • The importance of preventive measures to avoid long-term health issues was also highlighted in relation to foot and oral care.
  • The session on insulin and sport addressed how people living with diabetes can safely incorporate physical exercise into their routines.
  • The latest technological developments were presented, demonstrating how modern tools and applications are transforming diabetes management.

A particular highlight of the event was the presentation of the CARE4DIABETES project, during which the team shared the initial results achieved in Asturias since the programme’s inception.
